Most Queensland councils and certifiers require an engineer’s design for any retaining wall over one metre in height, or any wall supporting a surcharge load such as a driveway, pool or structure above it. We design to the relevant Australian Standards and account for the reactive soils common across Gold Coast hinterland blocks.

Do I need an engineer for a retaining wall?
If the wall is over one metre high, sits near a boundary, or supports a load such as a driveway or pool above it, most councils and certifiers require an engineer’s design — and it’s worth getting one regardless, since a failed retaining wall is expensive to fix.
Can you certify a wall that’s already built?
In many cases, yes — we can inspect an existing wall and certify it if it meets the required standard, which is often needed for a sale or certifier sign-off.
How much does a retaining wall design cost?
It depends on wall height, length and site conditions. We quote a fixed price up front from your details, and if you’ve found a better quote elsewhere, we’ll match it and take a further 10% off.
